"Materialized Visions" Exhibition Reception Showcases Contemporary Black Figurativism

Evoke hosted a spectacular grand opening reception for its latest exhibition, "Materialized Visions," on March 30th. The exhibition, curated by esteemed art historian and curator Ayrika Hall, shines a spotlight on contemporary black artists and their innovative approaches to figurativism.

"Materialized Visions" invited viewers to explore the multifaceted expressions of contemporary black artists working within the genre of figurativism. From paint to ceramic, textile to archival material, the exhibition offers a rich tapestry of artistic visions that challenge and expand traditional narratives.

The exhibition featured the works of an impressive lineup of artists, including Langston Allston, October Garner, Lisa Deabreu, Kimmah Dennis, Jeff Rivers, Queen Hibbler, Delisha McKinney, and Kenya Cree/Kenya Moffett-Garner, and Evoke's co-founder, Hex Parsons. Each artist brings their unique perspective and artistic prowess to the conversation, creating a diverse and dynamic showcase of talent.

In addition to the exhibition, guests had the opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking panel discussion led by curator Ayrika Hall and artist, curator, and cultural worker, Jada-Amina. The discussion delved into the evolving dialogues surrounding black figurative traditions, offering insights into the themes and concepts explored in the exhibition.

Evoke wants to take a moment to express our gratitude to curator Ayrika Hall for her exceptional curation and dedication to showcasing the work of contemporary black artists. Hall's keen eye for talent and commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices have played a pivotal role in shaping the success of "Materialized Visions."

The grand opening reception of "Materialized Visions" was a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and community. From captivating artworks to engaging discussions, guests were treated to an unforgettable evening that showcased the power of art to inspire, provoke, and unite.

Be sure to visit Evoke in future exhibitions to experience this groundbreaking energy firsthand and join the dialogue surrounding contemporary black art.
