"I carry a residual fascination with small town social dynamics from my formative years into adulthood."

More on Brooke

Brooke Raven is a Chicago-based painter, and Central Illinois native examining social dynamics in rural America. Raven’s work mythologizes the monotonous small town existence that’s represented through the public internet archive of its subjects. Her work considers the less publicized gossip accumulated through lived personal experience.

“It’s messiness has earned my honest admiration and limerence, for all of its haphazard graphic design choices, homoerotic fantasies positioned as bromance, incoherent monologues about imaginary haters, the accidental renaissance compositions immortalized by a blacked-out uncle, all plotted with the foresight of someone cutting their whole lawn with a weed wacker.”
